Derek has been involved in fishing for most of his life, catching his first fish, a trout, at the age of 4, from the sparkling waters of the river Isla in Perthshire Scotland. From that moment onwards, he was, like the fish, hooked.
In the four decades since that first fish, he has fished for Carp in Europe and Britain. Flirted with competitive fly-fishing. Pursued specimen Chub and Barbel across northern England. Trolled for billfish in the Indian Ocean and Caribbean Seas. Sat frozen on dark North Sea beaches waiting for winter Cod. Been elected to fishing club committees and managed both river and still water fisheries.
